GASSIA HOUSE VALLES DE ANEU ECOMUSEUM

Travel back in time at Casa Gassia.

In June 1994, the Ecomuseum of the Àneu Valleys opened to the public. Today, this institution is a living entity that, through research, conservation, dissemination and restitution of our integral heritage, wants to participate and influence the economic and social development of the Àneu valleys and also the development of the rest of the Pallars region.

The Ecomuseum was born from a new museological and museographic conception, where the visitor enters, in an active and participative way, into the ways of life of the Pallars at the beginning of the century. In contrast to traditional museums, the Ecomuseum does not try to fit its entire exhibition into a single building, but spreads out over the whole territory with the aim of explaining life in the valleys.

The fundamental parts of the museum are distributed throughout the heritage centres; the centres are distributed throughout the villages of the Àneu valleys and, at present, the following centres can be visited: Casa Gassia, the hydraulic sawmill in Alòs d'Isil, the monumental complex in Son and the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere del Burgal (12th century) in Escaló.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm.
How to get there: Esterri d'Àneu is located between the C-13 and C-28 roads and the Ecomuseum is in the old part of the village.
