PLACES OF INTEREST IN SORT TURISME RURAL IN LLEIDA

These are the main places and events of interest in Pallars Sobirà.

 

Authentic "rural tourism in Lleida" can be found in the landscapes along the Noguera Pallaresa river and the Aigüestortes National Park, in the heart of the Pallars Sobirà region. Sort is situated in the centre of the valley, on the banks of the river Noguera Pallaresa. The valley was, not so long ago, rich in nut-tree meaning NOGUERA, and Pallars Sobirà means the upper part of the Pallars region. Pallars Sobirà is the whole name of the region which is situated between 700m and 2500m above sea level with an extension of 105 km² and in which 3500 people are living permanently.

 

The population, for the most part, lives in different small villages, all around the valley. Along the valley you will find many Romanesque buildings from the 15th century, and the castle walls of the former residence of the counts of Pallars. You will also appreciate the offer of all kinds of artisan products: cheese, cakes, and even sausages from the country.

 

The river Noguera Pallaresa is rated as the best whitewater river in Europe. Thus, the most renowned international canoeing competitions are held on this river. From our village: You will have access to sport and rural tourism activities in Lleida, such as rafting, climbing, hiking and to the alpine and snow ski resorts and cross-country ski resorts. Among the slopes that are in our valley we have:

 

- Port Aine at 20 min.

- Espot at 30 min.

- Tavascan at 30 min.

- Baqueira Beret 30 minutes away, the best alpine ski resort in Spain. Located 2500 m above sea level. In the village of Sort every Tuesday is market day. It brings together artisans and farmers from the region.

 

Some of the popular festivities of the villagers of Sort is the night march every 24th June with fire torches from the mountain to the village. It is a tradition worth admiring and once in the village, the crowd celebrates the arrival with a good popular dinner.
