MONTCORTÉS LAKE

This beautiful lake is of karst origin, not glacial, and is the only lake of its kind in the Pyrenees. It has a perimeter of 1,320 m and covers 43 hectares. Its waters come from an internal spring whose depth varies according to the time of year, but always ranges between 20 and 40 metres deep. This lake is included in the PEIN (Plan for Areas of Natural Interest) and is one of the most important reserves of aquatic and migratory birds in the Pyrenees (osprey, common snipe, mallard duck).

 

It also contains a diversity of flora and fauna species, some of which are rarely represented in the Pyrenees. There are several hiking routes from the lake, swimming and fishing. How to get there: from Gerri de la Sal, in the direction of Sort, take the local road on the left towards La Pobleta de Bellveii. The lake is 12 km away.
