AIGÜESTORTES AND SAN MAURICIO LAKE

One of Catalonia's greatest natural treasures is the National Park of Aigüestortes and Lake Sant Maurici, the only national park in our community. Located in the heart of the Lleida Pyrenees, it is the most genuine representation of the high mountains and is unique for the majesty of its landscapes and the richness of its flora and fauna.

 

The park is dotted with fir trees and centenary black pine forests and is watered by almost 200 high mountain lakes, where the chamois, the capercaillie, the marmot and the mythical bearded vulture find refuge. The best excursions to get to know the park are the Camino de los Enamorados, the Roca de la Quemada, Lake Llong, Lake Sant Maurici and Amitges. In the National Park you can observe glacial phenomena such as U-shaped valleys and natural lakes.

 

The landscape includes alpine meadows and canyons, and the lower walls of the area are covered with spruce and pine forests. Some of the park's peaks have altitudes close to 3,000 m, so the park has a large number of shelters and other external facilities such as visitor reception houses.
