On the first weekend, numerous towns in the Lleida regions, and also the ski resorts, celebrate Carnival, with the organization of various events, among which the colorful and attractive parades stand out.
Related to the Carnival, in Ponts, Organyà, Coll de Nargó, Oliana and Peramola the traditional Rancho will take place, a collective and free meal prepared by popular collection that is cooked in large cauldrons in full view of the public. Guixa is celebrated in Isona, which is a kind of stew made with bacon, noodles, rice, chickpeas, beans, pumpkin, etc. And in Tremp, visitors can participate in the popular stew. Continuing with gastronomy, we must mention the Pintxo Pote in Vielha and Bossòst, the “Black Truffle Cuisine” Gastronomic Show, the Porcpassió Gastronomic Show in Lleida and the Pallars Wine and Cheese Show in Sort.
Of the fairs that are organized in the month of March, the one in San José is the most famous as it is the meeting point and point of reference for the agricultural and livestock sectors. The Mollerussa contest reaches its 142nd edition with several novelties. The Motor Show will have its own identity and will last five days (from March 19 to 23), one more than the fair itself. In addition, a precision agriculture demonstration day will be held and, once again, the show will serve to promote Lleida products with the Lleida Provincial Council's "Food, territory and you" space.
Lleida will hold Fira Natura, dedicated to the environment and quality of life, and Lleida Expo Tren, a show focused on leisure and railway modeling with the participation of national and international exhibitors. Balaguer will host the Meeting of cava caps and collecting. Solsona will live the Potato and Truffle Fair, with the exhibition, tasting and sale of potatoes and truffles, in addition to the exhibition of old and modern tools and machinery. People interested in learning about the oil and stone production processes can go to Vinaixa to enjoy the Oil and Stone Fair, which also offers stalls with machinery, vehicles and handcrafted products. In addition, L'Albi hosts the Oil Festival.
As for the traditional festivities, the Water Festival in Almacelles must be highlighted, which each year commemorates the arrival of water from the Aragon and Catalonia canal on March 2, 1910, with various activities and a spectacular parade of decorated floats, and the Cazolada de San José in Albesa. Also interesting are the start of the season at the Universe Observation Center in Àger, Lake Day at Lake Ivars and Vila-sana, the “Scattered Music” Festival in Lleida, the start of performances of The Passion of Cervera and the Tàrrega Sona 2014 cycle, which brings together around thirty groups and soloists in concert of styles such as pop-rock, miscegenation, jazz, electronic and classical, among others, until the summer.
In sports, we must highlight the numerous competitions that are held in the Lleida Pyrenees related to snow, such as the Amics de Montgarri alpine skiing event in Beret, the Arp March in Tuixent-La Vansa, the Mountain ski race Alt Pallars-Certascan and I Open Tavascan ski mountaineering at the Tavascan resort, the Jesús Serra Foundation Trophy in Baqueira Beret, the Bassiero Ski Mountaineering Traverse in Baqueira, the Catalan Snowshoe Cup at Boí Taüll Resort, the Absolute Alpine Championship of Catalonia in Espot Esquí, the Spanish Sled Dog Championship in Plan de Beret, the Espot Tamarro Race in Espot Esquí and the Naut Aran March in Plan de Beret.
Other interesting sports activities that bring together many people are the Mollerussa City Cross, the Urgell Walk, the Segarra Castles March, the Almatret and Seròs BTT marches, the Flamicell Olympiad in La Pobla de Segur, the Hivernal Cervera MTB and the Firefighters Race in Lleida.
