The entire area of Pallars Sobirà has always been a purely livestock and agricultural region, which has conditioned the festivals and traditions of the place, which until recently have mainly followed this cycle.
A few years ago the meetings were held during the month of May, just before the shearing of the sheep took place, as well as the marking of the herds to take them up to the high mountains. The local fairs were held during the autumn months, which coincided precisely with the descent of sheep, while the main festivals of the place are held during the winter months, since it was when the locals hardly had any work to do. .
But all this in recent years has changed due to tourism, so that different modifications have been made to the dates on which its main festivals are celebrated, moving them to the summer months. And it is that in the summer months it is precisely when the number of visitors is much higher. It is also important to note that some fairs have been disappearing with the change of time.
Among the most relevant festivities of the place, dates such as Carnival must be taken into account in its liturgical calendar (where its exquisite Farcit de Carnaval, its calderadas, as well as the Passa cannot be missed), the Christmas season (a celebration festivities purely family), as well as Easter (rich group meals are held in the open air).
With the arrival of the summer season, the locals get down to work to celebrate a popular festival known as the Isil and Alins faults. But the thing does not end here, since during the good weather there are also many festivities and social, cultural and sporting events typical of the Pallars Sobirà area.
Nor can the party celebrated in the town of Sort on June 24 be left in the inkwell, a popular party where the locals start with torches of fire making a night march from the mountain to the town. This tradition is worthy of contemplation, since once the villagers reach the town, they all celebrate a great popular dinner.
It is important to say that a large part of the Lleida regions celebrate their main festivals during the month of August, a month in which the calendar of proposals is full of good alternatives for all tastes, ranging from concert cycles to traditional activities.
