The Pallars Sobirà region has natural environments typical of the Catalan high mountains, with the fauna that is usually associated with it. They are species perfectly adapted to the cold, such as the white partridge , the chamois and the stoat , which belong to the alpine zone.
A little further down, on the subalpine floor, we find forest habitat species (some of them highly threatened) such as the capercaillie , the Pyrenean owl , different types of woodpecker , the roe deer , the fallow deer and many others that can be seen with a bit of luck In fact, due to the large area occupied in the region by red pine and fir forests, it is where the largest population of capercaillie in the Spanish state is found, as well as numerous places where the last brown bears of the Pyrenean mountains take refuge.
On the sunny slopes, the gray partridge , the hare , the wild boar and the deer , among others, dominate the fauna linked to the thickets of brooms, rhododendrons and other shrubs, as well as an important list of species of carnivorous birds and mammals. median.
In the montane zone, very close to the still inhabited nuclei, the deciduous forests and the increasingly scarce meadows and winter pastures will be the characteristic habitat of the Central European species such as the bullfinch and the goshawk , among others. In the rivers and ponds of clean waters (so abundant and characteristic of Pallars), the common trout , the dipper and some otters are present.
Finally, the population of birds of prey species such as the vulture , the bearded vulture and the golden eagle will fly high over the peaks in search of food.
