Traditionally, Pallars Sobirá had been a region dedicated specifically to agriculture and subsistence farming. In the past, resources were also obtained from forest exploitation and mining operations, among which the iron mines of Vall Ferrera stood out.
Another important chapter was that of the Gerri de la Sal salt flats and, more recently, the implementation of hydroelectric industries. For some years now the primary sector has lost importance and, on the other hand, the tertiary sector based on tourism has increased. The tourist attractions of the region are its historical heritage, the beauty of the landscapes and the practice of various outdoor sports (fishing, adventure sports, winter sports, hiking...).
