The thickness and quality of the snow in the ski areas are increasing, expecting up to half a meter this week
The snowfalls since Saturday night in the regions of the Pyrenees have left up to 15 centimeters of snow in the resorts of Lleida. This was indicated by sources in the sector, who pointed out that the new rainfall expected throughout this week could accumulate up to half a meter, which will contribute to improving the conditions of the ski areas.
It must be remembered that only Baqueira-Beret and Tavascan now have practically the entire surface of the slopes open. The accumulation of snow forced the use of chains to circulate around the Bonaigua pass and along the access road to Pla de Beret throughout the day.
These new precipitations may give the Boí Taüll, Espot, Port-Ainé and Port del Comte resorts the opportunity to open new slopes and consolidate the snow cover on those already open. All still kept more than a third of the tracks closed last week. In the case of Tavascan, those responsible for the Lladorre resort indicated that the snowfall also improves the quality of the snow: it will go from hard powder to powder, which makes it more attractive for skiers. Baqueira, for its part, already announced at the beginning of last week the opening of its entire surface.
The firefighters made an exit to the Pont de Suert to remove accumulated snow on the roof of the municipal sports center around 11:00. This was indicated by the emergency services and the city council, which pointed out that it was a preventive action to prevent the roof of the building from supporting additional weight, and that most of the snow melted with the rains throughout the afternoon. .
It also rained throughout the day in the counties of the plan. Weather forecasts point to the possibility of snowfall in the Pyrenees, at least until next Thursday.
