To speak of Pallars Sobirà is to speak of one of the most beautiful regions in all of Catalonia, in fact it has countless areas that are fully protected due to their great ecological value. There are many natural settings located in Pallars Sobirà that will delight lovers of the most spectacular natural landscapes and outdoor activities.
One of the visits that you cannot miss is the Forest of La Mata in Valencia de Àneu, since it is one of the most important fir forests in the entire Iberian Peninsula. It is distinguished by showing beautiful and wild vegetation. It is an ideal space to carry out all kinds of excursions, since this forest has itineraries suitable for all ages, with greater and lesser degrees of difficulty. The best way to get there is via the C-28 highway from Esterri de Àneu towards the Port of Bonaigua.
The Boumort National Reserve, full of contrasts and rising up to 2000 meters, is another of the most surprising natural spaces that you will find in Pallars Sobirà. These lands occupy more than 13,000 hectares, where red pine, black pine, rosemary or juniper are some of its vegetable protagonists. Its interior is home to endless animal species such as wild boar, deer, fox, badger and various carrion birds. It is an ideal destination for excursions and the most curious activities such as the Berrido del Ciervo during the autumn months.
Among the places to mention, the fascinating Lake of Montcortés cannot be left out, the only shelf in the region that has a karstic origin instead of a glacier. The waters of this lake come from an internal spring, and have a depth that ranges between 20 and 40 meters depending on the area. It is also relevant to say that it is one of the most surprising waterfowl reserves in the entire Pyrenees. In its surroundings there are different hiking trails to contemplate the beautiful natural environment of the place. Also, if you wish, you can take a good dip in its waters or enjoy fishing. If you like nature and animals, taking a horseback ride through the place will be a dream.
Crossed by the river Baiau, at about 200 meters of altitude, is the Pla de Boet, a surprising herbaceous plain that forms the Boet valley, a beautiful spot that is surrounded by the most idyllic and spectacular mountains and forests. You can not forget the camera to photograph, it is essential. The river winds its way through this beautiful plain, where you can often come across cows, sheep and mares that graze there.
To finish, simply mention the Escalarre marshland (within the High Pyrenees Natural Park), the Certescans lake, the d'Arnui forest, and how could it be otherwise, the emblematic and renowned d'Aigüestortes National Park and Lake of Sant Maurici. And you, which one do you prefer to visit?
